Frederic Louis Clark
March 20, 1942 - May 5, 2012

(please see below for service details)
Fred Clark, a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend, passed away on Saturday, May 5th, 2012 after a short illness.

Son of Bob and Mary Clark, Fred grew up in Escondido and spent most of his life in San Diego, attending Escondido High School and Palomar College.

He married his high school sweetheart, Carol, in 1962 and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in August.  They have two daughters, Laurie and Jennifer and three grandchildren, Katie, Nate and Zac who will miss him very much.

After working for Petrolane and Airways Rent a Car in his younger years, he became a scale mechanic for San Diego Scale, and soon became an expert in heavy capacity scales. He was a partner in Sylvester Scales and worked most recently with All Pro Scale.  It always seemed that he was happiest when he was throwing around 50-pound weights and crawling around in the nastiest truck scales and batch plants.

Fred became a certified SCUBA diver while on a cruise and became an avid diver, even in the less-than-tropical waters off San Diego. He used to say he loved to dive La Jolla Canyon when the visibility was less than ideal because he liked to see things come in to focus as he dove deeper. He instilled this love of the ocean in his kids and especially his granddaughter, Katie, who also became a diver after her Grandpa gave her lessons for her 16th birthday.

He was one of the all-time great dads - he always made sure to appropriately intimidate any boy that wanted to date his daughters, but was a giant marshmallow any time those daughters batted their eyelashes.  (Of course, there was that time when Laurie drove his truck into a parked car.....but we won't go there.....)

He was a great friend and mentor, gave spectacular hugs and had a clap that he pulled out during football games that would rattle windows for miles around.

In short, he will be dearly missed by everyone who ever had the good fortune to have crossed his path.

In Lieu of Flowers

His beloved Carol suffered a stroke several years ago and was her primary financial support and caretaker.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to help with the expenses associated with moving Carol to a local assisted living facility where she can get the care she needs.  Donations may be made at any Chase bank -- for specific account information, please email family friend Karen Turner at srenrut@gmail.com.  Thank you in advance for your kindness.
